4 Localization-Specific Skills a D365 Functional Consultant Should have to handle ERP Successfully

Carrying out an ERP implementation comes with its own set of challenges, but when coupled with localized requirements, these challenges can be much more complex to tackle. Most D365 consultants often rank high on technical expertise but often fall behind soft skills. To successfully handle a localized ERP implementation, D365 consultants must work on honing the following soft skillset:

  • Bilingual or trilingual language proficiency: Often underrated, but of high value is having the ability to speak 2 or more languages as a D365 consultant. Especially in situations where the ERP project needs to be localized, having the ability to converse in the local language of the country in which the ERP implementation is being carried out can work very strongly in your favor. For example, the d365 consultant can effectively communicate with the foreign client about the scope and project methodology and conduct user training sessions and workshops in the local language.

  • Knowledge of local regulatory and business requirements specific to the country: Understanding the local requirements & regulations is also highly crucial. This includes knowing country-specific laws or regulations, and local compliance. A country/region must comply with country-specific laws and regulations with common business practices to handle daily business transactions, VAT reporting, and operations to meet legal obligations for activities conducted in the country/region.

  • Intercultural communication skills: Understanding how individuals from different countries work, communicate & conduct meetings is crucial in avoiding misunderstandings and conflicts. This is especially helpful for d365 consultants who often interact directly with clients. For example, email etiquette largely differs from one culture to another. Going wrong here can in some cases build or break professional relationships.  The German email etiquette is formal, precise and to the point, whereas for other countries in Europe, the emailing approach is more informal and friendly.

  • Strong Research skills: Every country has its own set of legal laws and regulations. These laws & regulations are also susceptible to change with time, so it is vital for consultants to have strong research skills so they can find out as and when these changes occur. There may also be new laws that might come up, so consultants need to be up to date on these matters.

Although underrated, having localization-specific skills can ensure that your ERP implementations are carried out smoothly, regardless of where your client is from.
